What: Sixth grade students travel to the forest to learn skills from foresters. The goal of Model Forest is for students to apply classroom lessons to real-life, forestry activities. These activities are taught by professionals who use these skills on a daily basis. We aim to connect student’s in-class education to real world experiences. All activities are hands-on and require critical thinking. Examples include measuring tree height (trigonometry), disease identification (observations and deductive reasoning), assessing shoot-to-root ratios (algebra), and determining seed germination rates (ratios and fractions).
